GOOD weather prompted an exceptional turn out of horses and ponies competing in the many classes at the Constantine Country Show on Saturday.

From the British Show Jumping Association ring to the children's gymkhana, riders young and not-so-young saddled up. By late afternoon, the horses and ponies had been put through their paces and the section champions were judged with Silverland Soldier, owned by and ridden Janine Williams of Helston, taking the title of Supreme Champion Horse of the Show. The reserve Supreme Champion was Western, owned by Mrs J Bailey of Penzance and ridden by Hayley Williams.

The show president was Angela Bowden, of Constantine, who was introduced the domestic section 20-years-ago. Her many duties included presenting the prizes in various sections and mingling with the exhibitors and visitors.

The Cury Hunt brought a pack of foxhounds under the leadership of James Pearson and during the afternoon a fun dog show was held which attracted many entries and saw Paul Rule from Falmouth act as judge.

There was a good and varied selection of vintage and classic cars, vans and trucks along with tractors from yesteryear and the fully restored Constantine wheeled bier. The owners and drivers took their vehicles on several circuits of the main ring at the end of the day.

The marquee housed the domestic section with a good display of produce, horticulture, cookery, handicraft and photography. The judges commented on the high standard of the exhibits. The section secretary, Elaine Goldsworthy, thanked the judges and stewards for their time and all those who donated raffle prizes.

Helston and St Keverne Young Farmers' Club had helped set up the domestic tent which they then used during the evening for It's a Knockout, barbecue and disco.
