SHOPPERS in Helston were treated to an unusual sight last week when around 30 pre-schoolers paraded through the town centre on their way to their "graduation."
The youngsters were all from the Lizard C.H.I.L.D Trust nursery, based in the ground of St Michael's School, and were celebrating their final days at the facility.
A few of the children had been at the nursery since they were one and now at the age of four, they are all preparing to start in reception classes at local schools in September - leaving staff emotional as they bid goodbye to their little charges.
The children's graduation day began as usual at the nursery where they all donned their gowns and mortar boards in preparation for the parade. Escorted by two police officers and staff, the youngsters then made their way down Meneage Street, heading for Helston Museum where their parents were waiting.
The youngsters were taken up to the gallery where they were individually presented with graduation scrolls before having photographs taken and then tucking into a buffet.
"It was an amazing day," said the nursery's lead practitioner, Yvonne Picco. "We all had a really good time. There was plenty of time to relax and chat with parents."
