The judging for for the annual Coverack Carnival took place on the lawn of the Bay Hotel and was followed by all the entrants parading around the village.

Thanks to all the participants, visitors and locals it was deemed a great success. Several entries came from further afield including St Keverne, bumping the number of participants up to 60 who all joined together to make it a fun evening.

The Carnival Queen was Megan Martin and her attendants were Evie Butler and Jess Brook, who are all pupils at Coverack School. The weather was fine and sunny so St Keverne Band played on till the sun went down entertaining those on the harbour who stayed for the presentations and raffle results.

The judge, a guest from Switzerland staying at the Bay Hotel, had a challenging task as there was a lot of support in the children’s sections. The costumes ranged from a Cornish pisky, a Minion, Batman and his lady friend to ballerinas and swimmers. Some children from Coverack School came as the cast from their school production of Cats. Poldark featured twice –the adult version being rather different than the children’s.

After the judging, St Keverne Band led the colourful procession from the Bay Hotel gardens passed the spectators to the harbour where Carnival Queen Megan, helped Hugh Richards, the organiser, present the rosettes and prizes.

The committee has thanked Trevor Roberts for setting up the PA system; the raffle ladies, Maggie and Meg; the barbecue ladies, Angela, Sarah and crew; the Bay Hotel for allowing them to hold the event on their lawn, and especially the contestants who ensure the future of this Coverack tradition.
