The Port Navas Regatta, which starts at 4pm on Saturday, promises to be bigger and better then ever this year with a wealth of activities on and off the water for adults and children of all ages.

For the youngsters, there will be a fancy dress competition, the theme of which this year is scarecrows. There will also be children’s races on the field and lots of games including hoopla, golf game, hook a duck, coconut shy, whack the rat, crabbing etc.

A new free attraction this year will be Professor Tom Suddes and his amazing Punch and Judy Show for children and the young at heart, which will be performed throughout the afternoon. There will also be a professional face painter offering free face painting.

The food court will have a barbecue, a "yummy tent" filled with delicious home made cakes, savoury food, ices and soft drinks. Alcoholic refreshment will be available at the Yacht Club bar.

There will be swimming and rowing races on the water, boats supplied. Many are fought to the bitter end but many are also just for fun. Experience is not necessary.

“This is our first Regatta since last year’s centenary," said Richard Tiptaft, the chair, “and we wanted to make it extra special to kick off the first of what we hope will be another century of fun and fund raising in Port Navas.”

There will also be a raffle with a first prize of a return flight to the Scilly Isles and many other prizes. Last year the regatta raised £2,300 for large and small charities which serve the local community such as Cornwall Air Ambulance, Cornwall Hospice Care, the RNLI and Phoenix Stroke Trust.
