Penryn's new town team is calling on people who love the town to give the thumbs up to a new town logo, as it looks to kick-start new regeneration efforts in the town.

The town team is made up of community group, business and council representatives with the support of Cornwall Council’s town centre management team and Penryn Town Council, advised by regeneration and town centre specialists.

It's aim is to aid the promotion of local groups and businesses, improve links between different parts of the town, and rejuvenate Commercial Road.

The team said it's first step, ahead of delivering better signage, improving car park provision and securing funds to enable further projects to benefit the town, is to reinvigorate the town's brand, and residents are invited to three sessions showcasing the town's new logo.

Spread over three dates, each at a separate site, the team will be explaining the branding process, including the logo that has been designed so that it can be stencilled onto material by groups within the town, which will be demonstrated with a t-shirt stencilling workshop.

Town team chairman Chris Smith said: “We have listened to experts about how Penryn can help itself to become busier and to redevelop its thriving commercial centre. We have volunteered our time to do what we can to help the town move towards that goal. The town team does not have a vast pot of money – our mission is to access funds that may be available to support the town’s regeneration.”

Town team member Gill Grant added: “Penryn is a fabulous town that is full of potential. We see the formation of the town team as a positive next step on the road to regeneration and we are pleased to see the town brand coming together.”

The branding work itself was carried out as a gift to the town by branding agency Eight Wire, which was based at Islington Wharf for ten years.

The roadshow sessions will be at Baileys Country Store on August 13, the Thirsty Scholar on August 14 and the Old Gentleman’s Shelter on August 15.
