The villagers of Flushing celebrated summer in style as the sun shone on most of the week long regatta.

The week started with live music on the Bowling Green, and culminated with the annual carnival through the village streets, before foul weather on Sunday led to the cancellation of the Nankersey Rowing Club regatta on Kiln Quay Beach.

Throughout the week locals and visitors were invited to take part in activities such as the crab catching competition, sandcastle competition, trawler race, pram rowing race, bathtub race and swimming races, and the children's sports day with mini marathons.

Chairman Chris Martin said: "It went very well, it was a brilliant week, everything was pretty well attended.

"The carnival was very good, the standard of entrants was incredible, people put in a lot of effort.

"It's a shame about the weather for the gig club, the difference between Saturday and Sunday was incredible."

This year's presidents were Simon and Jill Thompson, who awarded the president's choice award for the carnival to the Super Marios.

Chris said the money raised by the week has yet to be counted, but it will be split between different organisations around the village, with some money going back into providing an even bigger and better regatta next year.
