The online appeal to raise money for a permanent memorial to PC Andy Hocking is only 27 per cent away from its target of £3,000 with more than two weeks to go.

The crowdfunding page set up by Falmouth BID manager, Richard Wilcox, now has 94 pledges which amount to £2,190 so an additional £810 is needed to ensure all that cash is released and made available for the memorial.

In addition, a further £1,035 has been handed in to Falmouth Town Council over the past week, bringing the total donated since the appeal was launched two weeks ago to £1,873.15. When added to the £1,925 raised immediately following Andy's death in March, the town council is currently holding a total of £3,798.

The money will go towards the One Last Beat memorial which is being created as a lasting tribute to the Arwenack neighbourhood beat manager whose death at the age of just 52 shocked the entire community and prompted around 6,000 people to take to the streets for a memorial parade.

The planned memorial will take the form of five sets of Andy's footprints cast in bronze and inlaid in granite.

Each footprint will be a cast of Andy's police boots, inscribed with his badge number and his rank and name. They will be placed at some of Andy's favourite locations around his beat, including Market Street, Church Corner and Pendennis Point. The memorial as the complete backing of Andy's family.

Many of the pledges made on line have been accompanied by touching tributes. Mick and Sue Fleetwood said: "Always a cheery 'hello,' with any promise being honoured."

Graham Newell said: "What a wonderful way to remember a wonderful guy."

Steve and Claire Sherburn said: "Falmouth won't be the same without seeing Andy. Very much missed."

Catherine Whitworth said: "I miss Andy very much, he was such a huge loss to the community. I think it's a wonderful tribute and want to be a part of it. Thank-you Andy."
