Firefighters expecting to save people from a fire on Tuesday instead came out of a Heamoor house with two dogs and a cat.

Two fire engines from Penzance attended the blaze at the two storey detached house in Rosehill Meadow at around 4.30pm, after a neighbour heard a smoke alarm and looked into the kitchen to find an oven glove left on an unattended hob. A fire service spokesperson said: "When the crew arrived they found a small fire in the kitchen and two firefighters wearing two breathing apparatus used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"At the time it was believed that there may have been an occupant in the property. Four firefighters wearing four breathing apparatus made a full search.

"The fire was confined to the kitchen and all persons were accounted for, however the firefighters did rescue two dogs and one cat from the property."
