Falmouth's inshore lifeboat was called out on Sunday after the coastguard received reports of a possible sighting of people in the water in Veryan Bay.
The boat launched just after 1.45pm and rounded Zone Point, heading for the scene of the sightings at Gull Rock, but when a search of the area was carried nothing was found, and after close to an hour's search the boat returned to base.
An RNLI spokesperson said: "The report was made in good faith and the objects that were seen may have been a couple of lobster pot markers off the northern end of Gull Rock."
