Falmouth RNLI evacuated a French fisherman from a fishing vessel after his hand was crushed by a heavy hatch while out at sea.

The all weather lifeboat was launched just before 6pm on Monday to collect the man, who was a crewmember of the Breton boat Testarossa.

The accident had happened while the boat was fishing 20 miles south east of Falmouth, and the crew had been given medical advice and advised to head for the port to rendezvous with the lifeboat.

The two vessels met off the Governor Buoy, and two casualty care trained lifeboat crew members were transferred to the vessel to assess the casualty's condition and to prepare him for transfer to the lifeboat, before he was taken to the lifeboat station and handed over to a paramedic at 6.30pm.
