Five generations came together in Helston to celebrate the life of a great-great-grandmother on her 90th birthday on Saturday.

More than 80 family and friends of Lilian Stephens, including three cousins from New Zealand, gathered at her home in Roskilling Wartha to mark her big day.

Porthoustock born Lilian, who has lived in and around Helston and the Lizard all her life, had second husband Harold by her side as she welcomed everyone in.

Ditching the usual birthday presents, fundraiser Lilian asked people to make a gift to Shelterbox for her birthday, raising £500 for which she wishes to thank all who donated.

Born on August 20 1925, Lilian attended St. Keverne School and was the organist in the chapel at Porthoustock which her father Norman, a local Methodist preacher, had reopened after the war, as well as the first secretary of the village hall.

She took an office job with the Roadstone Quarry Company, Porthoustock, moving to the Helston office where she worked until marrying farm labourer Edgar King and moving to Nancegollen and later Seworgan, where she again played the organ at the chapel.

After 15 years in Falmouth working at Langholme care home, Lilian and Edgar retired to Helston, and four years later Edgar died.

Lilian met her second husband at the Golden Club in Trewennack, and they have been married for 24 years. Lilian has a daughter, Joy, married to Andy; with grandchildren Nicola, Steven, Simon, and his partner Vicky, and Michael and his partner Shaun, and great grandchildren Jemma, Jak, Egan and Eliana.

She also has a stepson Brian, married to Christine, and step grandchildren Jonathan, his wife Amy, and Dominique.

Lilian has always enjoyed fundraising, holding a number of fetes at her home. She has always enjoyed craftwork, needlework and embroidery.

She is an excellent cook and has achieved many prizes for her baking in local horticultural shows.
