Events are planned throughout the weekend for this year’s Helston Harvest Fair. On Saturday 5th September the morning starts at 9.30am with the Helston Pet Show and 12.30pm Fun Dog Show. Both events will be held at Helston Football Club and are free for visitors come along and watch. Regardless of the weather the shows will go ahead.

Then in the afternoon the Carnival is also assembling at the Football Club. For the last few years Helston Carnival has gone from strength to strength with more entries every year. Helston Football Club will be open for refreshments throughout the day. We are encouraging individual people and organisations to get inspired. Any entries, floats and walkers, can arrive on the afternoon with judging at 3.45pm. The Carnival will leave at 5.00pm and will be led by the Helston Town Band through the town.

On the Sunday it is the Horticulture and Craft Show in the Old Cattle Market Helston. Entry forms need to be completed by Thursday 3rd September. There are many different classes ranging from vegetables and flowers to handicrafts, baking and wine making with special categories for children. The Show is open from 1.30pm for the public to have a good look at the entries and Helston Town Band will be in attendance outside the show. At 4.00pm the prizes and trophies will be presented for the Show and the Helston in Bloom Competition.

Harvest Fair weekend is also about other events in the town. For the week leading up to 6th September the shops will be decorated with the Harvest Fair theme and the best window displays will be presented with trophies on Saturday morning. Helston Bowling Club is holding it’s Open Bowls Competition on 5th and 6th September and the Cornish Wrestling Middleweight Championships will be taking place in the Sunken Garden from 2.00pm on the Sunday. Both events welcome spectators for free. The Blue Anchor will be holding it’s Harvest Fair Beer Festival from 3rd to 5th September.

Every year the committee is expanding on the events that are held. Who knows maybe in a few years’ time we could see the Harvest Fair back on the calendar as one of the major events of the year, just like it used to be.

Entry forms and details are still available for events from Heathercraft, on the website; www.helstonhf.co.uk
