Gyllyngdune Gardens in Falmouth were filled with beaming faces on Sunday as the crowds descended to enjoy the fifth Tea Festival.

Tempus Leisure staff and an army of volunteers saw all their hard work pay off as the sun shone and people flooded into the gardens to enjoy the entertainment and activities laid on.

"It was absolutely brilliant," said Jacqui Owen, the garden's visitor and education officer. "The garden was just filled with smiles and we have had so much positive feedback from it. People were saying what a fantastic day they had had and that they couldn't stop talking about it when they got home."

The day was filled with an "eclectic mix" of tea tasting, tea dances, pop-up theatre performances, live music including acoustic sets by students from Falmouth School and Penryn College, and tea leaf reading. Very popular was the Creativitea Tent where visitors could enjoy cream teas and afternoon teas while soaking up the atmosphere of the Mad Hatter's tea party.

It isn't yet known exactly how many people attended, but Jacqui said: "Last year we had around 2,000 visitors and we had more than that - it was definitely busier this year and takings were up a lot on last year. We actually ran out of cakes two hour before the end so had to get some more in."

All the profits from the event will be ploughed back into the award-winning gardens.
