An appeal for donations to make life a little easier for refugees in Calais was answered in abundance by the people of Falmouth and Penryn on Sunday when dozens dropped off items at the Princess Pavilion.

The donation drop off event had been organised by friends Jules Bennett and Jessica Pearson who said it was "a huge success."

Jules added: "We had a massive amount of items dropped off throughout the day, including around 45 tents, many large boxes full of blankets, numerous boxes and crates of food, jackets, jumpers, trousers, pot/pans, socks, gloves, scarves, bags, camping gear, toiletries and more.

"Many people came down to help out and volunteer with the sorting, packing and labelling up as well as offers of driving it up to the big storage facility in Wadebridge, where it will stay until it is needed to be sent out and distributed to the refugees.

"It was a huge community effort, with large amounts of donations coming in from the the generous residents of Falmouth and surrounding areas. Thank you for your items, many brought new for the cause, thanks to all the amazing volunteers who worked so hard and big thanks to the Princess Pavilions for donating the space for free. Amazing what can be done in one day.

"Also, big thanks to the larger donations from church groups, community groups, colleges and schools. The donations that weren't quite what we were after have been donated to local charities."
