Brewers and tasters alike enjoyed a chance to try a few tipples you won't be finding on the supermarket shelves as they attended the Porthleven Home-brewing festival recently.

Beer, wine and liqueur enthusiasts descended on Hamill's Farm to taste their way through a variety of home made refreshments, all while raising cash for local charities.

The festival had a competitive edge, with local brewers Woody and Paul sharing the trophy for best beer, while while Paul Almond took the wine prize for his elderflower based entry. Rosemary Clayton was the winner in the liqueur competition, a category described by organiser Judy Collins as "anything a bit stronger than wine."

Judy said: "The weather wasn't too good but it was well attended by brewers and tasters alike.

"A good time was had by all."

There was a prize raffle, and a box of vegetable provided by Steve Nicholas and Peter Collins was auctioned off, with the event raising a grand total of £200. The proceeds will be split between Porthleven Lights and Porthleven Gig Club.

Judy added: "I would like to thank everybody who attended, the brewers and the people who were the tasters, or rather our guinea pigs."
