Five firefighters from St Austell had a surprise this morning when they were called to rescue a dog trapped in a hole.
The crew cut away shrubbery around the hole and managed to rescue the dog, only to find a cat which had been trapped underneath.
Crews were called to the hole, between a fence and a tree in a garden on Tregonissey Road, shortly after 9.30am.
A fire service spokesperson said: "It is believed that the animals were released unharmed as a result of this incident."
