Champagne corks were popping and the beer was flowing at the official opening of The Working Boat Pub, the latest venture of the Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth.

With a pub having been on the site for almost 200 years, the opening is a welcome rejuvenation of the town’s rich past. The Working Boat was re-imagined by the Greenbank's general manager, Ben Young, and the management team, to take in the best of Falmouth old and new.

At its launch, guests were treated to a selection of the Working Boat menu including popcorn, monkfish scampi and mini-burgers. Cutting the ribbon was the Falmouth's mayor, John Body.

Ben was particularly pleased with the reception that the opening party received, saying: “The atmosphere was amazing. It was great to see all of the hard work of the last year materialise, and to see everyone enjoying themselves so much.”

With a focus on traditional pub food, and 15 ciders, beers, and ales on tap, the Working Boat is already proving a hit with both the local community and visitors to the town.

Occupying a prime spot on the Greenbank Quay, the pub offers a relaxed drinking and dining experience, as well as boasting unrivalled views across Falmouth Harbour and over to Flushing. Private pontoons have now been installed to make new bar accessible from both land and sea.

With all the modern comforts in a traditional setting, there is also Wi-Fi access, and large screen televisions to show those all-important Rugby World Cup matches.

Keen to maintain the character of the pub, the venue is decked out with authentic features such as driftwood and rope decoration and leather seating. Old photos of Falmouth town and harbour, and the pub itself, give visitors a glimpse of the development that has taken place.
