Helston based Origin Coffee will be holding a public consultation over development plans for its Porthleven harbourside cafe.

The company has just completed the pre-application process for plans to build a new drum-shaped building with a cafe, offices and training facilities, with a connected factory space on land at the Porthleven Shipyard.

In the pre-application document, Arco2 architects stated: "The existing Brew House in Porthleven is Origin’s first coffee shop, now an important part of Porthleven’s food culture and a huge local success.

"This will become the 'front of house' for Origin occupying the ground floor of the new building with direct connection to outside seating, the harbour and the Square [a new public space].

"The coffee roasting process will be an important part of the Brew House experience, whether a tourist visitor popping in for a coffee (perhaps whilst waiting for the bus) or a business client appointment with Origin staff."

The plans include a paved public space next to the building, which "connects pedestrian routes from the public car parks and to the green space further up the valley," as well as a new integrated bus shelter, and a screen wall hiding the shipyard's industrial buildings and car park. A new entrance to the car park would be created on Methleigh Bottoms.

The architects said the design for the new building, sited in a conservation area, in a village within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is "bold, but has a strong relationship with Porthleven," and "is symptomatic of Porthleven’s new/emerging positive identity - a centre of food culture and high quality tourism."

The consultation will take place at The Brew House on Friday, October 9, between 4pm and 6pm.
