The Cliff Rescue Team from Falmouth Coastguard had a busy Sunday with three shouts in less than two hours.

The team was called at around 4.15pm to recover a life raft that had been washed off a passing yacht and washed ashore at Gyllyngvase Beach.

On arrival they found a man had already moved it off the beach and arrangements were made for the owner to collect the raft.

While returning from Gyllyngvase, the team was sent to a vessel reportedly aground on the mud flats at Malpas Village, near to Sunny Corner, and arrived to find a motor boat with five people on board, including one child, was high and dry.

The group had deployed their canopy and said they were happy to sit tight and wait for the tide to float them off.

Finally, the team was sent to another vessel aground nearby, close to the Cornish Mutual building at Newham.

The crew found a small sailing boat aground on a steep mud bank, and the man on board said he had enough supplies and was happy to wait the six hours for the tide to float him off.

Both boats made contact with the coastguard when they had floated free.

A coastguard spokesperson said: "Both calls had come from vigilant members of the public who'd spotted the boats in possible distress. We'd rather be called than not at all."
