Over 400 women decked out in purple took to the streets of Falmouth on Saturday night and helped raise over £30,000 for the Children's Hospice South West.

It was the seventh year the charity's Moonlight Memory Walk has been held in Falmouth with it proving as popular as ever with women walking in memory and celebration of loved ones. The ladies have pledged to raise over £30,000 in sponsorship which will go straight towards the care and support that CHSW offers children with life limiting conditions and their families at Little Harbour - the children’s hospice in St Austell.

The Moor began to fill with ladies in their purple t-shirts and various fancy dress accessories from 8.30pm ahead of a moving memory ceremony where Emma Lloyd-Cowell, head of fundraising, and Tamsin Lewis, head of care, at Little Harbour, spoke. This was followed by a song from Lottee Brown, young ambassador for CHSW.

With the back drop of hundreds of candle bags beautifully decorated by each participant, which were placed around the fountain on The Moor, the ceremony concluded with a minute’s applause for the children and families cared for at Little Harbour and those who were being remembered on the evening. Scott Temple from Pirate FM provided music for the ladies who took part in a warm up session led by Ian Stringer from Fitness Matters in Truro before they set off.

At 10pm the ladies started their five mile walk around Falmouth and were welcomed back to a well deserved medal, pasty and hot drink on their return to The Moor.

Kiley Tellam, events fundraiser for CHSW, said: “We are so grateful to every single lady who took part in the Moonlight Memory Walk on Saturday night. It was a very special evening and to have £30,000 pledged in sponsorship is absolutely fantastic. We really are humbled by everyone’s generosity and commitment to fundraising. Thanks also go to all of the volunteers and marshals who helped us ensure the event ran smoothly – we simply couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help.”

The team from CHSW would like to extend their thanks to Ocean Falmouth for being event sponsors, Packet newspapers, Pirate FM and Scott Temple, Lottee Brown, Farmhouse Studios, Ian Stringer, Ultra Entertainment, Fal Fire, Rococco Hair Salon in Truro, St Michael's Hotel and Spa, City West Commercials, St John Ambulance and Falmouth Town Council.

Ladies are encouraged to send in their sponsorship money to Little Harbour as soon as possible. Anyone who has raised over £100 and sends their money in before November 13 will be entered into a prize draw to win a complimentary ESPA Spa Escape Day at St Michael’s Hotel in Falmouth. The lady raising the most amount of sponsorship will win a hamper from Rococo Hair and Beauty in Truro.
