Falmouth’s Events Square will again play host to one of Cornwall’s biggest and best loved specialist food festivals, Falmouth Oyster Festival, from Thursday October 8 – Sunday October 11.

The annual festivities celebrate the start of the oyster dredging season, the native Fal Oyster and the diversity of Cornish seafood, with four days of feasting, cooking demos, live music and craft stalls.

The Port of Truro Oyster Fishery is the only remaining oyster fishery in Europe, if not the world, where traditional methods of sail power and hand-pulled dredges must be used and this fascinating industry, which plays a large part in Falmouth’s industry and heritage, is celebrated in style.

The chef present this year are: Chris Eden from Driftwood; freelance chef, Fiona Were; Bruce Rennie from The Shore Restaurant; The Greenback Hotel's Nick Hodges; David Trewin from Samphire; from St Michael's The Flying Fish Restaurant is Anthony Theobald; Arty Williams from The Cove; Ken Symons from Oliver's; Annie Sibert from my Fish Kitchen; and Cornwall Wildlife Trusts' Matt Slator.

This the 19th Fal Oyster Festival festival to take place and next week's event looks to be no less popular as organisers confidently anticipate even greater numbers flocking to the festival marquee to sample seafood, sup champagne and taste the mighty mollusc.

Truly, an event that the whole family are able to enjoy, sampling Cornish produce from the many stalls inside and surrounding the festival marquee and cheering on the Working Boats as they race for victory in the weekend’s traditional sailing events.

A key date in the foodie calendar, cooking enthusiasts can enjoy demos from leading local chefs, oyster inspired events at St Michaels Hotel & Spa and oyster shucking competitions. The fun-filled event celebrating all things maritime will be set to a soundtrack of live music and sea shanties sung with gusto, best enjoyed with a pint of local ale and, naturally, a freshly shucked oyster.
