A charity fundraiser being held in memory of two young women from Falmouth who lost their battles against cancer, will be held on The Moor this weekend.

The Heather Reed and Sasha Watson Memorial Purple Fest is being organised by Tanya's Courage Trust, with support from Falmouth Town Council, and will include a host of activities for the whole family - all for free.

Between 10am and 11pm on Saturday, and 10am and 5pm on Sunday, there will be live music from local bands in the marquee, along with lots of outdoor entertainment on the piazza from Bouncy-land Amusements, such as Nerf Shooting and a bouncy castle. There will also be children’s entertainment on Sunday courtesy of Tarquin.

There will be food traders and local businesses in the marquee and throughout the weekend visitors can enjoy some "mellow chilled out music" from local musicians, as well as a "bit of rock" on the Saturday night and workshops from local dance groups on both days. All of this can be enjoyed while browsing the vast array of market stalls.

Among the local talent supporting the event are: DJ Brian Cee-Jesters Roadshow, Libby Pentreath, Only Moses, Cornwall Rock Choir, Jay Burleigh, A Jazz Affair, Samphire, Lauren Bailey, The Roustabouts, True Collision, After Dark, Jason Thomas Dance, Little Monkeys Theatre School, Bicycle Thieves, Tarquin, To Life Dance, No Apologies and the whole weekend will be rounded off with Not The Beetles closing the show at 4pm on Sunday.

The event is being held in memory of Heather, who died in January 2013 at the age of 22, and Sasha, who lost her fight against cancer in February only two weeks after her 19th birthday. Both girls and their families received support from Tanya's Courage Trust after being diagnosed.

"The trust provided huge support, financial and emotional, for Sasha," said her mum, Michelle Bray. "We have raised money for them in the past and when they asked whether they could put Sasha's name to this we were only too happy. It should be a really good couple of days."

Iris Billing, chief executive of the Tanya’s Courage Trust, said: “This is going to be a fantastic weekend and a very exciting event. We hope the Cornish weather does us proud on the day but we do have the safety net of a marquee just in case. We have worked very hard to make this a big event for Falmouth and Tanya’s Courage Trust, working very closely with Falmouth Town Council, so please do tell everybody you know to join us and support a very special cause.”
