Twelve young people from Helston took part in a range of confidence and team building activities over the course of one week thanks to the Cornwall Fire and Rescue's Phoenix Project.

The course was funded by the Cornwall 100 Club (Cornwall Community Foundation) and its aim was to build a healthy lifestyle and help the young people build a good social network. It also looked at raising aspirations by providing male and female role models.

The activities also helped the young people to build confidence and learn to lead a team while taking part in competitive activities. There was also the first residential activity at BF Adventure where students took part in team building activities and used the adventure quarry for canoeing and kayaking. After an evening meal, the young people played football, and roasted marshmallows over the fire.

On the final day students were based at Helston Fire Station practising for a presentation to parents. The week was rounded off with a well-earned barbecue.
