Police are seeking information after an elderly woman in Constantine was conned into paying £400 for a substandard bed at the weekend.

Officers launched an appeal after receiving a report over the weekend of October 10 and 11 that the woman was "duped" into paying for the "substandard" 3/4 bed, without any paperwork changing hands.

They said: "The male selling the bed said it was from a show house in the village and was now surplus and no longer needed."

They said the man was driving a white van with www.direct.furnishers.com sign written on the side.

If anybody sees the van or is approached by the man they should contact police on 101 with as much detail as possible, including registration and a description of the man.
