Co-founder of Greenpeace UK Pete Wilkinson will be talking this weekend in Helston and Porthleven in light of the recent release of his autobiography.

The first talk will be on Saturday, October 24 in Porthleven Village Hall from 7.30pm and will mainly focus on his new book, From Deptford to Antarctica: The Long Way Home, which details his colourful history as an environmental activist combating whaling and nuclear dumping.

While on Sunday, October 25 Pete will be delivering a talk on contemporary environmental challenges in Helston's CAST (Cornubian Arts & Science Trust) building on 3 Penrose Hill at 7pm. This has been organised by CAST Cafe's Dominic Bailey as part of a series of talks called: CAST Cafe Geographic.

Pete's work with Greenpeace rose to prominence during the 1980's when he lead an exhibition into the Antarctic in attempt to save the area from mineral exploitation.

More recently he has worked with various government bodies dealing with nuclear waste, which is what he will be discussing at CAST on Sunday in his talk: From Nuclear Waste to Climate Change: Contemporary Environmental Challenges.

Organiser Dominic Bailey said: "I was initially approached by a friend of Pete's for him to give a talk more in line with the talk he's giving on Saturday in Porthleven relating to his autobiography. At the same time, I was thinking of doing something coffee-related and doing a screening of the Danish Arctic documentary, so I thought the three could be sewed together into a series of informative events under a 'geographic' banner, and asked if Pete could tailor his talk at CAST more around wider environmental issues."

Dominic will be cooking up some vegetarian food for the evening, and those interested have been advised to book with him by sending him an email on: dominic.r.bailey@gmail.com.
