Porthleven's skaters, children and their parents took the chance to have their say on designs for the village's new skate park at a recent public consultation.

The plans were viewed by 76 visitors to the event last week, who were able to look at designs by three different companies before casting votes for their preferred choice.

Organiser Mark Adair said: "We had a pretty good turn out, about 75 people came through between the ages of two and 70. It exceeded my expectations.

"It was a wonderful exercise and it's good to show people what we have been working on."

The Porthleven Skate Park Group has so far raised about £35,000 for the project, and is currently submitting a £75,000 bid for Sports England funding which would put them within £10,000 of the £120,000 which a new facility is expected to cost.

That is the figure that was given to the three companies Maverick, Canvas and Wheelscape, who each put designs forward, and the group has said it wants a progression skate park, which would allow all abilities to have ago, and be even better than what was there before.

Mark said: "We want to work with everybody to go through a fair and transparent process... we want to make sure we build a park that's fit for purpose and usable.

"The overwhelming feedback we have had is that it's something that we need to do... people coming and saying it's great that you're going ahead and getting this park built."

Commenting on the designs on the Porthleven Skate Park Project Facebook page, Joshua Alex Billington said: "It's all fantastic news and I'm a huge supporter.

"I believe 100 per cent local activists get projects done. I think I need to attend the next meeting so I can run you through what I've learnt doing Helston's project and the best ways to engage with youth, adolescent and adult skateboarders

Zain Ishmael added: "From my experience being young you adapt very quickly after initial fear in turn you will become a better rider.

"Kids will adapt more than the elder guys. If its too basic they will grow out of it, they need to be challenged and inspired."

The general consensus online appeared to favour the Canvas design as best for skaters and beginners.

There will be another opportunity for the community to look at the designs and vote on them at Porthleven School's firework event on October 30.
