A group of eleven volunteers from 824 Squadron at RNAS Culdrose, have helped to complete vital maintenance work and create a sensory garden at Halwin School in Helston.

The existing garden and pond area were planted as part of the millennium celebrations, but in the subsequent years had become over grown and unusable, as well as unsightly.

The volunteers threw themselves into the task and cleared sack loads of brambles as well as painting and staining three sheds and all of the fencing around the Millennium Garden. Not content with that they also decorated Halwin Pre-School and removed unwanted sand and other materials from the outside area, to make it a safer and more enjoyable play area for the children.

The pupils at Halwin School are very excited by the prospect of now being able to use this area to enhance their learning and have fun at lunch times.

Head teacher Vicky Sanderson said: “Our amazing volunteers tackled all areas with gusto and grit. The whole job was seamlessly managed and exactly what we wanted - thank you so much RNAS Culdrose.”
