Police are investigating allegations that Masked Ball revellers' safety was put at risk after vandals tampered with cabs outside the event on Saturday night.

Officers are looking for witnesses following claims of criminal damage to cabs which were parked in the car park at the nearby Sainsbury's supermarket in Helston, which was being used by taxi firms throughout the night as a pick up and drop off point.

It was reported locally that several cars belonging to Porthleven based Kernow Cabs were targeted, with screws or nails alleged to have been pushed through the tyres between the hours of 8pm on Saturday and 8am on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said: "We are looking at CCTV, and would like to speak to eyewitnesses, as we are looking for anything suspicious that happened that evening."

When asked about claims that one of the cars had been reported in a road traffic accident that night, police said there had been a problem with the steering locking up on one of the cars, but would not say the two incidents had been linked.
