A group of Brownies from Penryn, Falmouth and Helston have been enjoying life outdoors by stomping through leafy woodland, climbing a 30 foot high tower and flying through a tree lined canopy.

The 35 Brownies were taking part in an adventure weekend that saw them find independence, enhance team building skills and make new friends as they participated alongside over 200 like minded individuals in low rope courses and cart racing through the 25 acre woodland of Nine Ashes near Bodmin.

"That was really amazing," said Sixer Erin Whatley, "I love adventure and I love jumping off thing."

A slack line stretched between two giant oak trees saw team mates encourage each other as they individually faced fears and tested their nerves walking the thirty foot metal cord one step at a time.

When they weren't taking part in adrenaline fuelled activities, the girls' creative skills and keen eye for detail where demanded as they prepped for Christmas, creating sequin-filled tree baubles, decorated handmade ginger biscuits and created from scratch a bracelet present using just 40 centimetres of colourful paracord with two nails in a piece of wood.

"It's an awesome day, really funny and fun," said Kelpies Sixer Fenella. "The best bits were archery and zip wiring, cos it gave me a little bit of fear as I jumped."

Peer educators, Zoe Taylor and Sam Kendal, of 2nd St Austell senior section, led by example, taking the youngsters through their craft work sessions and talking about their experiences of being a Brownie and what it meant to be a Girl Guide.

"Over 200 girls have been taking part in indoor and outdoor adventures designed to help them build their team work and friendship making skills," said leader Paula Volkner. "The weekend prepares the Brownies for moving up to the Guide section giving them some of the difficulties and responsibilities to help them become a better Guide."
