An end to the problem of stuck buses in Penryn may be in sight as plans fall into place for new parking measures and a traffic order for Helston Road.

There have been frequent complaints about buses becoming stuck on the narrow road due to cars parked out of alignment, or even a wheel sticking out a little too far, which can bring traffic to a halt in the town centre one-way system, and often leads to the bus driver, passengers and passersby trying to physically move cars out of the way.

Mary May, Penryn Town Councillor and Cornwall Councillor for Penryn West, said there had also been complaints from residents of buses damaging the front porch of certain properties, sometimes after they had only just been repaired from a previous collision.

But following meetings between highways officers, Penryn Town Council, Penryn Campus and First Bus, a solution appears to be on the horizon, with the potential for a traffic regulation order to be put into effect next year.

Mrs May said: "Highways categorically stated that Helston Road would be having works done in consultation with residents along with the parking review that is being conducted in and around Penryn.

"However the consultation wouldn’t take place until spring of 2016 with the traffic regulation order (TRO) not taking effect until the end of summer 2016."

Following discussions with Falmouth Town Council, councillors agreed to add Penryn's request into a TRO they are requesting covering areas in Falmouth, Mabe and Mylor, which should speed the process up.

Residents on Helston Road are expected to be consulted over yellow lines running down from number 72, and over reinstating some parking further down the road.
