In an age of multiple occupancy housing and reliance on motorised transport, what would you do for a guaranteed parking space?

In Penryn, the answer could be to pay £12,500 for a parking space at the Harbour Village development, which has been put on the market by Heather and Lay.

The space has been advertised on property website Rightmove.co.uk with sales copy boasting that the space, "tucked away within a purpose built development," is "close to Penryn town, shops and businesses" with good links to Falmouth, and there is even a "floor plan" so potential buyers can see exactly where their space will be.

The elderly owners have defended the price of the space, which came with their house and is little used, saying that a similar space in Penryn recently sold for £14,000,

By comparison, an annual season ticket in Commercial Road car park would cost £353.

Commenting on Facebook, Rachel Jeanne Monique Gerred-Hart wrote: "I remember a garage in Falmouth selling for 10k once a few years back, this has gotta top that. At least a garage has a roof."

Simon Holden suggested a group whip-round to buy the space, while Christopher Thom saw a property opportunity, writing "could pitch a nice sized tent there and live in it."
