A court has ordered a son to keep away from his parents’ home in Falmouth until further order after he used a television set to trash furniture and other items there when he was in a drunken state.

David Feeley, 36, whose address was given as c/o Basset Street in Camborne, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court to causing £400 worth of damage to property belonging to his mother Marcella Feeley on October 24.

Alison May, for the CPS, said after Feeley was released from a prison sentence on October 23 he went to his parents’ home wet and cold, and although he had caused problems for them before through his addiction to drink, against their better judgement they let him in and made up a bed for him.

The next day the couple had been out shopping, and on return, they found Feeley slumped over in a drunken stupor. When they woke him up he was violent and aggressive and they told him to go.

With that he started to cause damage in the room where he had been sleeping, using a television set as a hammer, and smashed more things downstairs.

Seen by the police later he said he was ashamed and when he drank he got into trouble. His solicitor Paul Simons said he was getting help with his addiction and had made a good start in wanting to get his life back on track. He was an alcoholic and had fallen off the wagon.

Feeley was given an eight week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and a restraining order until further notice. He had to pay £100 compensation and £150 court charge.
