Helston Sports Centre is celebrating its 30th birthday on Saturday, November 28, and to mark the occasion it will be holding a fun packed open day when all sports and activity sessions will cost just £1.

From kayaking to kettlebells and swim sessions to Nerf tag, there promises to be something for all the family but as some of the activities have limited spaces available, advance booking is advisable.

Helston Sports Centre, which is now managed by the Cornish charitable trust Tempus Leisure, was first opened in 1985 as a swimming pool with two squash courts. In 2000 the squash courts were converted to a fitness suite and the centre now holds more than 40 fitness classes every week.

With more than 10,000 visitors each month it is considered an important part of the community, used by many local clubs and 19 schools from the surrounding area.

Talking about the open day, centre manager, Matt May, said: “It is going to be a fun day with heaps going on. We want everyone to come along and have a go. This is the chance to try something new like TRX or boxercise, or you can come with the family and just have fun in the pool.”
