A bank in Truro is helping charity Butterfly Conservation raise money this Christmas to protect some of Cornwall’s rarest butterflies.

Declining species like the marsh fritillary and pearl-bordered fritillary can be found on sites like Bodmin Moor, but their habitats need constant management to keep them thriving.

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has agreed to help the wildlife charity support these projects by hosting a Christmas fundraiser at the RBS Green Street branch on Saturday, December 5, from 11am to 4pm.

Butterfly Conservation Cornwall are providing a range of butterfly-themed Christmas gifts and cards and will also be running a cake sale and free children’s craft activities and refreshments throughout the day.

Butterfly Conservation volunteer Clare Wicks came up with the idea and said RBS were happy to help: “I have been so inspired by the practical work that Butterfly Conservation volunteers are quietly doing here in Cornwall. I told my bank about it and was thrilled when they offered to let us use the bank premises to raise some much needed funds.”

RBS Truro bank manager, Sandra Egan, said: “We have chosen to support Cornwall Butterfly Conservation in their quest to raise funds to extend their local volunteering programme. They are a small charity who is working hard to protect our environment and every purchase on the day will directly help to save rare butterflies and moths in Cornwall.”
