The 56-year-old proprietor of the Strathallen Guest House in Helston jumped out of an aeroplane at Perranporth airfield for the first time – and raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Davey Jeffery, who is a member of Helston Rotary Club, made the audacious achievement as his personal contribution to the Rotary campaign to raise funds for a Cove cancer support centre at Treliske Hospital.

He jumped from 10,000 feet over the airfield strapped to an experienced sky-diver and said afterwards: “It was fantastic – apart from the ‘corkscrew’ on the way down ! But I would do it again tomorrow.”

Davey had to slim down by quite a few pounds to squeeze inside the weight limit for the jump by forsaking his favourite Spingo ale for many weeks.

Club President John Notley said: “ It was an incredibly brave undertaking by Davey and shows how strong our commitment is to raise funds for the cancer centre.”

Pix: ‘Davey in mid-air ‘ and ‘ready for a pint’.
