A climber believed to be from Penryn sustained serious injuries after falling down a cliff near Porthcurno yesterday.

The man in his 20s was left hanging 50 feet up the cliff by Pedn Vounder beach following the fall, which left him with a fractured knee and suspected head injuries.

Coastguard rescue teams from Penzance and Lands End were sent to the scene, along with the rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and an ambulance, following multiple 999 calls to Falmouth Coastguard.

They found the man, believed to be a student at the Penryn Campus, who had fallen 15 feet, and it was decided to use the helicopter to lift him from the cliff.

A spokesperson for the coastguard said: "After initial treatment he was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske."
