No magic lamp is needed to grant the wish of a brighter January, thanks to a colourful production of Aladdin in Helston next week.
Helston Theatre Company is staging the popular pantomime at the Epworth Hall, bringing some oriental spice to the town just ahead of the Chinese New Year.
From next Wednesday until Sunday families can join title character Aladdin and his comedy sidekick-come-mother Widow Twankey on an adventure across China, as they take on the evil Abanazar with the help of a cheeky monkey.
Directing is Helston's deputy mayor Gillian Geer, helped by Ashley Chinn, who is also in charge of choreography and joint musical director with Len Olds.
Ethan Blowers starts in the title role, with Megan Bloor as the beautiful Princess Jasmine.
Widow Twankey is played by Steve Kingsman, Gary Hosler is Wishie Washie and Chris Malton takes on the role of the Genie.
Audiences are encouraged to arrive by magic carpet, or failing that by car or on foot.
Tickets are now on sale from the Cornish Riviera Box Office on 01726 879500, by emailing www.helstontheatrecompany.co.uk or over the counter at Gillian's Larder in Meneage Street.
