Family and friends of Falmouth teenager, Sophie Taylor will be united in their grief on Friday as they come together for her funeral service.

Sophie, aged 16, sustained fatal injuries after a VW Golf in which she was a back seat passenger crashed on Pendennis Headland in the early hours of January 3. Her funeral service will be held in the Trelawny Chapel of Penmount Crematorium, Truro, at 3pm on Friday, January 22. Her family have stated that any donations given through the retiring collection will go to Cancer Research UK.

Sophie, a former pupil of both Falmouth School and Penryn College, had been a student at Cornwall College for 18 months before her untimely death. There she had been described as being extremely popular with both her fellow students and staff.

The accident which claimed Sophie's life took place at around 1.50am after the car in which she had been travelling hit a grass verge and rolled over. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. The teenaged driver and another 16-year-old female, who had been the front seat passenger, were both treated at hospital for minor injuries.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to the accident to contact them, along with anyone who may have seen the VW Golf being driven in the Falmouth area before the crash.

An 18-year-old Falmouth man was bailed until April 6 after being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
