League tables, showing the performances of pupils across the country in last summer’s GCSE exams, have been published today (January 21) by the Department for Education.

The average in England of pupils achieving five or more A* to C GCSEs, including English and Maths, was 57.1 per cent.

The best achieving school in the Packet circulation area was Camborne Science and International Academy with 67% achieving five or more A* to C GCSEs, including English and Maths. Although the figure has continued to drop slightly year on year

They were closely followed by Falmouth School and Penair School at 64%, which were both up on the year before. Falmouth School saw the percentage of pupils achieving A to C grades in English and maths reach 67% while Penair reached 71%.

Both Mullion School and Helston Community College saw 62% of pupils achieving five or more A* to C GCSEs while Penryn College achieved a rate of 55%, just below the national average.

Minister of State for Schools Nick Gibb, said in a statement: "Today's results show that thanks to the hard work of teachers and pupils, schools are already responding to this government's vital reforms - leading to higher standards and transforming young people's life chances.

"Our Academies programme is revolutionising the school system, with converter academies leading the way and sponsored academies turning round schools which previously would have been left to languish.

"Our reforms to GCSEs and A Levels are based on the highest possible aspirations for our young people – providing a broad and balanced education and equipping them with the knowledge, skills and qualifications which will set them up to succeed."
