Staff and children at Constantine Pre-school have been showing off their "snazzy" new-look outdoor storage boxes which they only have thanks to David Cummins of Helston Community College stepping in to help.

Destined for a local recycling centre following a big clear-up in the autumn term, the rather dilapidated storage units were saved from the chop by David, whose daughter, Hannah, works as a key worker at the pre-school. He saw the potential for a project to give to his year ten and 11 pupils at the college and whisked them away for a makeover.

Pre-school manager Rosie Regini said: “These boxes are vital as a secure and dry place for us to store the children’s toys in order to maintain their condition. As a registered charity, every penny counts towards the upkeep of our setting and we are delighted with David, his team and pupils at Helston College.”

David and the construction department, which caters for 14 to 19-year-olds studying Levels 1 and 2 BTEC qualifications, sponsored most of the tools and materials. Pupils took a total of four days to complete the project. The boxes have now returned home to the pre-school playground where the children and staff are enjoying using them.

Pre-school committee chair and headteacher of neighbouring Constantine Primary School, Helen Bancroft, said: “It is great to see the boxes refurbished by local community members and we cannot thank them enough for their efforts.”

The pre-school relies on funding and fundraising to remain open for its children aged two to four. Anyone who can help, or is interested in securing a place for their child, should contact Rosie on 341444.
