Youngsters from Helston pre-school Little Merlins were taken on a magical journey from "farm to fork" when they visited Tesco yesterday (Tuesday).

The nursery children, who are based out of Culdrose Community Centre, were taking part in the Eat Happy Project run by the supermarket chain, which teaches children the process of how food gets from the farm and onto their fork to eat.

A special in-store trail let the youngsters learn where their food comes from by exploring the fruit and vegetable aisle, the bakery, counters and chillers, as well as tasting some exciting new food.

They had the chance to touch, smell and taste different types of fruit and vegetables, and learn about where they grow, before going behind the scenes to meet one of the store bakers and discover how bread is made.

The children carried on their tour with a visit to the cheese counter, to taste cheeses they may not have tried before, and then had a close encounter with fresh fish.

As part of their visit, the youngsters also had the chance to experience parts of the supermarket customers don’t usually get to see, such as the warehouse and chillers, as well as find out why some food is stored in freezers.
