Falmouth School announced this week it has submitted the planning application for its proposed sports development following a full public consultation

A year ago the school was granted consent for the change of use of the former Budock Hospital site to school playing fields which will see the creation of a full size, floodlit 3G artificial pitch which is due to be completed by the end of the year.

The school's proposals aim to create a community sports hub, which would include a state of the art gym, sports education facilities, a viewing balcony, a function room and changing facilities.

Following an agreement with Cornwall Council and the NHS, Falmouth School bought the former hospital site and work has already begun on replacement grass sports pitches, to mitigate the loss of the pitches sold at Union Corner, which are now earmarked for housing.

Assistant head at Falmouth School, Jem Wallis, said this week: “Falmouth School are thrilled to be in a position to be able to create this fantastic opportunity for the students and community. We have consulted nationally and locally to produce the right scheme with discussion and support from Westminster along with a wide variety of local clubs and individuals along the way.

"The development will be an amazing facility for the school that will be open to the community, clearly signalling our commitment to providing quality opportunities for Falmouth and its surrounding area.”
