A new support group for ex-service men and women diagnosed with dementia is being launched by Alzheimer’s Society in Helston. The new Veterans Café will provide an opportunity for veterans, in the early to moderate stages of dementia, and their carers and families, to meet and socialise with others who’ve shared similar experiences in a relaxed setting.

The Helston Veterans Café will run on the first and third Thursday of the month from 2pm to 4pm at the Culdrose Community Centre, Hibernia Road, Helston, TR13 8DF. The first café will be held on Thursday 17 March. The café allows people to come together to reminisce, chat, and take part in military-themed activities. It is free to attend and free parking and refreshments are available.

Cherryl Thomas, Group Co-ordinator for Alzheimer's Society in Truro said: “We hope that the new Veterans Café will really help improve people’s quality of life. The café will enable people to strengthen existing relationships, share experiences from their military past as well as provide support, information and guidance which can help people to live well with the condition.”

As well as the Veterans Café, Alzheimer’s Society runs a number of services in Cornwall including Singing for the Brain in Truro and Penzance and cafes in Redruth, Camborne and Saltash. For more information contact the Truro office on 01872 277963 or visit alzheimers.org.uk/localinfo
