Children from three schools in Falmouth and Truro spent weeks rehearsing ahead of a collaborative concert at Princess Pavilion last week.

On Thursday, March 10, 70 children from Constantine School, St Mary’s School in Falmouth, and Truro Prep School, came together to create a massed choir for the Cornwall Music Education Hub’s Songfest concert, performing a piece called Ocean Commotion about life in the sea with a colourful cast of characters.

The first half of the concert featured performances by a number of secondary students from Penryn College and Newquay Tretherras, plus students from Falmouth University, and the choir was accompanied by a four piece band made up of professional musicians who also teach for the Cornwall Music Service Trust.

The event was one of five concerts across Cornwall in March, involving 46 schools, which the Cornwall Music Education Hub has organised to raise awareness of the range of young vocal talent and to encourage young people to get involved in singing.

The project was organised by the Cornwall Music Education Hub’s vocal strategy lead, Angela Renshaw, with the support of conductor Patrick Bailey.
