The Lizard RNLI lifeboat set out on Thursday evening to help a fisherman with a serious injury on board a French trawler 20 miles southeast of Lizard Point.

The lifeboat was launched at 9.45pm to the trawler Nausicaa that had reported a 50 year old crew member on board who had suffered a serious hand injury.

The crew located the trawler 16 miles southeast of Lizard Point where the injured crewman was transferred onto the lifeboat, and his hand was dressed as they proceeded to Falmouth to rendezvous with a waiting ambulance.

Lifeboat coxswain Andrew Putt said: "The weather and sea conditions made this a straight forward incident for us to deal with. The vessel was located quite quickly as they were steaming toward us and once we got alongside the injured man was able to step on to the lifeboat.

"He had suffered a nasty hand injury which was dressed by the crew and we then transferred him to an ambulance at Falmouth."
