Siblings of people with autism in Cornwall are being invited to take part in an exciting project which aims to promote autism awareness through art.

London-based artist Marc Craig will be helping young people to design and create two austism-related murals which will be painted in Falmouth.

The permanent murals will be created outside the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, on Events Square, and in the tunnel leading to the car park in Church Street.

They will celebrate Falmouth as a community and will promote awareness of autism and Spectrum’s work.

Anyone aged 11 to 17 who has brothers or sisters on the autism spectrum can take part in the project, while having fun, sharing stories and learning about autism.

Gavin Pedley, manager of Spectrum’s Pearl Centre, said: “We have a very exciting opportunity to create two murals in Falmouth working with Marc Craig, who has in the past created murals for Falmouth and used to be a care support worker for Spectrum.

“We would love to invite young people who are brothers and sisters to a person with autism to help us create two murals in Falmouth, leaving a lasting impression on the town for years to come.”

Spectrum will be holding creative workshops for siblings to work with Marc in developing the dynamic concept of the murals. Siblings will be able to put their creative ideas together to eventually come up with the final design. During these sessions, siblings will be able to meet others in similar situations, share experiences and learn more about autism.

The creative workshops will be held on the weekend of May 14 and 15. To book a place, contact Spectrum’s Pearl Centre on 01872 278378 or pearl@spectrumasd.org.

Spectrum is a non-profit making registered charity, with over 30 years’ experience of providing residential, education and outreach support services for individuals on the Autism spectrum. For more information, visit spectrumasd.org.
