Helston Lizard Rotary Club celebrated its "best beer festival ever" over the weekend.

Taking place between Friday and Sunday at the Epworth Hall in Helston, it is estimated that 1,050 pints and 144 bottles of wine were sold.

As a result, almost £6,000 has been raised thorough sales, sponsorship and the raffle, which will be split between this year's chosen charity the Cornwall Leukaemia Trust as well as other Rotary charities and good causes.

On Saturday the festival was visited by Neil Hubbard, who asked if his sponsored head shave in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support could take place there.

By doing so he raised a further £130 via a collecting bucket passed around the hall, which was added to more than£500 raised through his Just Giving page. From this he donated £65 to the Rotary charity Cornwall Leukaemia.

Festival organiser Bob Calleja gave special thanks to all the club's sponsors and entertainers, Sounds Eclectic and the Cadgwith Singers, the Epworth Hall Management Group who hosted and supported the event, and the public who he said "made the festival so worthwhile and who we hope to see again next year."
