The Rotary Club of Falmouth and Falmouth Town Council have launched the Young Citizens Award for the second year and are now inviting nominations.

To be eligible a young person must be a resident of Falmouth and be of secondary school age. Their names together with a brief summary as to why they are being nominated should be sent to to the President, Rotary Club of Falmouth c/o Greenbank Hotel, Falmouth TR11 2SR, by June 20.

A committee of three people will then interview the applicants in mid-July and will decide who is the most deserving candidate. They will be judged on their record of outstanding community service through working with a voluntary organisation, assisting with town projects or helping the vulnerable.

Falmouth's mayor will present the award to the winner along with £50 from the Mayoral Fund and £50 from Rotary (to a charity of their choice) in late July. The name of the recipient will be kept in a Book of Honour. The winner will then be nominated, along with others, for the privilege of switching on the Christmas lights and will also be put forward for the RIBI (Rotary International Briton and Ireland) National Young Citizens Award which carries a £500 prize to be given to a charity of their choice, along with national coverage.

The Rotary club would be delighted to receive nominations from any voluntary organisation in the Falmouth area. For more information email antony.robinson@btinternet.com or call 211639.
