Falmouth Vocalz choir return from successful trip to Brittany

Seventy members of Falmouth based choir Falmouth Vocalz and their sister choir Local Vocalz from Hayle have recently returned from their fourth annual trip to Brittany where they enjoyed performances in Brest, Locronan and Concarneau. The highlight of the trip was a packed out concert in Concarneau, hosted by a local Breton choir, Mouezh Bro Konk. At the conclusion of the concert both choirs joined together to sing a traditional Celtic anthem in both Breton and Cornish, much to the delight of the local audience (which also included a number of British expats). The Cornish choir was made to feel extremely welcome by the Bretons and an “afterglow” social event saw much singing in Breton and English, the Cornish choir joining in traditional Breton circle dancing and the Bretons enjoying 150 bottles of Cornish beer. The concert was organised by members of the Concarneau/Penzance Jumelage association who made the choir feel extremely welcome once again. Local Vocalz are looking forward to welcoming Mouezh Bro Konk to west Cornwall at Easter 2018.

In addition to the concerts, the choir enjoyed lots of informal singing, eating, drinking and enjoying some wonderful sights and scenery and also a visit to the large Grand Marche market in Quimper. The choir are looking forward to their next visit.

Director of music, Neil Shepherd, said: “Choir tours are an excellent way of encouraging singers from choirs to bond together and the Vocalz performed splendidly in their French performances and were a credit to their choir, towns and indeed Cornwall itself. We are already looking forward to our 2017 tour to Josselin, Angers and Chateaux of the Loire."

Falmouth Vocalz rehearse on Wednesday evenings in the Wesley Hall at Falmouth Methodist Church at 8pm. New members are currently been recruited in readiness for some summer concerts in Truro Cathedral, Falmouth and a special open air concert at Gwenap Pit in September.
