Preparations are well underway for ZestiFAL 2016, the second annual celebration of sport and active living which is being organised by the Falmouth BID.

For five days from July 23 to 27, ZestiFAL will transform the town into a hub of energetic and engaging activity. A range of sports and activity providers from Falmouth and beyond will be showcasing what they do in the town’s open spaces, from Gylly Beach and The Moor, to Events Square and Kimberley Park.

It is an opportunity for residents as well as visitors, of all ages and abilities, to try something new, such as scuba diving, urban obstacles, yoga, Segway, paddle-boarding, Zumba, hockey or skateboarding.

Activities will pop up in spaces that you might not expect such as a Studio Zone on The Moor, Pirate Fun Run through the town, tennis or Tuff Enuff on Events Square, a family sports day in Kimberley Park and much more besides.

Richard Wilcox, Falmouth BID manager, said: “ZestiFAL is a celebration of Falmouth’s enviable lifestyle, bringing together a wide range of organisations to showcase all that’s fun and engaging about our community. It also helps support our businesses with many proactive local sports providers collaborating and intent on delivering a range of activities to engage with the public and give people of all ages a chance to get involved with sport and fitness.

"The activities will have free taster sessions which we hope will encourage Cornish residents and visitors to try something new. There are more exciting announcements to follow, so make sure to follow ZestiFAL online.”

One of the highlights of ZestiFAL is the annual Pirate Family Tuff Run, which raises cash for Cornwall Hospice Care, and takes place on July 24. Rose Beattie, major events fundraiser for the charity, said: “A motley crew of landlubbers will be donning their finest buccaneer clobber, climbing the rigging and taking on the challenge of the Zestifal Pirate Family Tuff Run. The fun run is a really active, family-friendly fundraiser and anyone can join the crew.

"You can choose to run, jog or walk along the one-and-a-half-mile route, and we are delighted to be working with Tuff Enuff to feature a Tuff Enuff obstacle course half-way around for the pirate crews to tackle. So to book you place visit cornwallhospicecare.co.uk.”

New for 2016 will be a Segway taster day, when Cornwall Segway will be on Events Square on July 27. Steve Farnell, from Cornwall Segway, said: “We’re delighted to be taking over Events Square on the final day of ZestiFAL and we plan to offer the public a challenging and exciting obstacle course to test their skills handling a Segway.

"The Segways are crammed full of technology to make them self-balancing. This includes gyroscopes, tilt sensors and on-board computers to give you the sensation of gliding effortlessly over the ground. They are really easy to ride and after some short training, you will have the opportunity to ride the course.”

It is not too late to get involved in ZestiFAL and any interested organisations should contact Falmouth BID to register their interest. For more information visit falmouth.co.uk or the ZestiFAL Facebook page.
